Our current design has a rechargeable battery, eSIM, GPS antenna, and button in a tiny form factor. When the button is pressed, the device automatically sends text messages to a preset list of contacts.
When first setting up the device, advocates and their clients will work together to decide how and when to safely use the device. Then, they can plug the device into a computer, navigate to our configuration website, and input (a) who to contact, (b) what each message should say, and (c) whether to send a given contact their location. Since the device is fully self-contained, it functions where devices like phones and apps fail.
